Upfront Art Gallery and Coffee Shop

Gallery view

The Lakes and Cumbria offer a lot of attractions for art enthusiasts and tourists. However for those looking for something different the Upfront Gallery and Coffee Shop is just the place to visit. This modern day art is located on what used to be the Unthank Farm. The property was bought with intentions of making it a gallery from the start. In the beginning it served as a location for the workshops of Upfront Exhibits. Eventually with funds from the exhibits the buildings were restored. Today, visitors will find a regular change of exhibits at the gallery.

The different exhibits are personally chosen by the owners to showcase different forms of art. Guests will find works done by local, national and international artists. This includes a special showcase of more than 150 artists from Cumbria and favorite exhibitors like Elizabeth Walsh, Keith Bowen and Eddie Tibbs. Pieces in the gallery also differ in form such as painting, textiles and ceramics.

Other than art exhibits, the gallery also converts into a Puppet Theater which stages productions during Christmas, Easter and summer. The Upfront Gallery is open from Sunday to Tuesday from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. It is also open on Mondays, if it is a bank holiday. Free parking is available outside of the gallery. The building is easy to access and most areas can accommodate visitors with special needs. An adapted toilet and baby changing area is also available for customers.

More than enjoying the exhibits visitors can also enjoy delicious food and comfortable accommodations here. Guests can take their pick staying at the eco lodge, static caravans and holiday cottage. Prices range from 200 to 550 with a deposit of 100 to secure reservations.

Bookings start on Saturday. Although the accommodations are self catering, guests can also enjoy meals at the caf. A variety of vegetarian dishes are served throughout the day from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. Aside from the regular meals, the caf also serves gluten free cakes, coffee and tea.

No trip to the Upfront Gallery and Coffee Shop is complete without visiting the gift shop. Here visitors can choose from a large display of items and greeting cards. Young children and puppet enthusiasts will also be delighted to find different types of puppets for sale. For more information about the Upfront Gallery and Coffee Shop take a look at the website:
