Whinlatter Forest Park

Resting more than 700 feet above the sea sits the only true mountain forest in England. Up above, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy life Whinlatter Forest Park offers a breath taking view of the Lake District going into Scotland. Visitors coming here are sure to enjoy getting close to nature as they explore the forest.
Whinlatter is home to a number of different activities which guests can enjoy. It features a GoApe facility which is an adventure course. Among things to look forward to in this course are zip lines, Tarzan swings and rope bridges. It is something that can be enjoyed by both the young and old. It also makes for a great family or group activity.
Another activity that this mountain forest is known for is biking. Cyclists are sure to enjoy the purpose built mountain bike trails. These are the longest in Lake District and are made up of two different routes. The Quercus, a blue grade trail that runs 7.5 kilometers long. The other trail also known as the Altura is a more challenging ride. A red grade trail, it will have riders biking for 19 kilometers. Both these trails start at the Visitor Centre.

Visitors who want to enjoy nature and a good exercise but want something more leisurely can also go for a walk. Whinlatter has a number of different waymarked walking trails that have breath taking views. These range in difficulty is there is something for everyone. Dodd Wood which is also part of the forest park has a number of waymarked trails and attractions.Children can also enjoy a day at this mountain forest thanks to WildPlay. Tots can swing, slide, splash and climb throughout the nine different play areas linked by a 600 meter trail.

All guests whether young or old can also enjoy delicious treats at the Siskins Café which is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. The home cooked dishes make for a filling meal. Those who are more adventurous are also sure to enjoy some of the unique treats. Meals can be enjoyed outdoors on sunny days. Siskins Café has highchairs and disabled access as well.
